Congrats to Mike Wheat from Hooked for Life Fishing in Alaska. He recently took a 57" moose and was kind enough to share the pics. Really cool looking rack!

This is Mark Bailey who owns the IGA Grocery store in Mesick, Mi. He heard his dogs barking and went out to check it out. They had the lion in the tree. When the lion saw Mark, he jumped out of the tree and came towards him. His dog attacked the lion in the side which gave Mark enough time to pull his hand gun out and shoot the lion 9 times. It did not kill him but disabled him. He called the DNR who finished him off. If it weren't for Mark's dog, he would have been attacked.
Can anyone confirm or deny the credibility of the Mesick Mountain Lion story? We can't seem to get proof one way or the other at the moment. Our source was credible but now doubt has been raised and we neither want to nor will present information that isn't accurate. Outwrite Outdoors is your home for the Outwrite Truth, and we wil get to the bottom of this.
After some digging, it looks like this is a hoax. I would however love to hear some credible information of where this cat was actually killed.

So here we are again with a new pending world-record fish. Already the detractors are coming out of the woodwork. They are either attacking the angler for killing the fish, or saying that it isn't truely a brown trout.
I for one hope that it turns out to be a true brown through genetic testing and the detractors get to lump it.
I recall a while back the bull elk known as the Spider Bull because of the massive antlers. There were all kinds of people saying negative things about it.
And let us not forget the infamous Rompola Buck. Whether or not that was a legitimate world record, that got out of hand.
The reason we keep records in the first place is to honor the animal. If you can't see through your own jealousies enough to realize that, maybe you shouldn't participate in the outdoors. We should all strive and desire, even just a little, to be the one lucky enough to harvest a world record. We should be happy for those of us who do. And we should above all, respect the animal enough. |

My good friend Jay Frolenko, owner and guide for Strike Zone Sport Fishing called me this morning to let me know about a possible new World Record brown trout that was caught on the Manistee River in Michigan on Wednesday (9/9/09). The 41 lb, 7.25 oz brown trout was taken by Tom Healy on Tim Roller's Ultimate Outfitter boat.
